Mass Intentions

Mass Intentions and Sanctuary & Pieta Candle Requests

[updated 03/04/2022):
The Mass Intentions Calendar has been fully booked thru June 30th. At this time, there are NO Saturday or Sunday Mass Intentions available through the end of this year.

There are several empty spots for Candle Requests through the end of this year, however MOST (but not all) of the vacancies left are for the Sanctuary Candle in the CHAPEL.

Please contact the Church Office for date availability.

A PDF copy of our "2022 Mass Intention Request" Forms are available on this page for downloading. Printed forms are also available in the Church Office. Please submit 3 dates (1st, 2nd & 3rd choice) for each mass and/or candle you request.

A copy of the final mass and/or candle request form will be mailed to you with the dates assigned at the time they are processed (upon request). Unfortunately, we cannot accept credit/debit card payments via online Giving. Checks or cash are acceptable. If you call the office to book mass intentions or candles, please do NOT include those payments on the same check as your regular giving. You may put them in a separate envelope marked "Mass" or "Candle" Request(s) and put in the collection basket or drop off to the church office, or you may drop them in the mail slot in the Church Office door after business hours and on weekends.

Note: Mass Intention and Candle Request dates cannot be CONFIRMED until full payment has been received.

Mass Intention Requests Policy

[updated 12/02/2021]:

Every "registered" parishioner is entitled to 2 masses a year, including children in families (see mass policy below for complete details).
Please complete and submit your Mass Intention form with three (3) date choices for each mass, who the mass is "for" and who it is "by". Each form has spaces for 2 masses. Mass Intention Requests are posted in our software program (REALM) to the individual parishioner's record. If you need to request more than 2 masses per year, a separate form must be submitted under another family member's name. The one "exception" to this rule is in item #7 in the Mass Stipend Policy below.

Mass Intentions are $10.00 each. Amounts over $10.00 per mass will be considered a donation to the church. Example: if you request a mass and pay $20.00, only $10.00 will be recorded as a Mass Stipend, and the other $10.00 will be recorded as a donation; $30.00 would be divided the same way, only $10.00 will be recorded as a Mass Stipend, and the other $20.00 will be recorded as a donation, and so on.

Completed forms & payments may be dropped off or mailed to the Church Office, or placed in the collection basket in a separate envelope clearly marked "Mass Request".

Funeral Mass Intention Requests Policy

[Updated 12/02/2021]

Funeral Mass Requests received by the family at or from the Funeral Home may be submitted in the individual envelopes provided by the funeral home OR visit Sue in the Church Office with a list of "mass submitted by" names, OR download, complete and drop off a PDF copy of our “Funeral Mass Request Form” on this page and submit with your payment(s) via mail, insert in the mail slot in our Church Office door or in the Collection Box in the Church or Chapel clearly marked "Funeral Masses". Please see #8 in the Mass Stipend Policy below for complete details for Funeral Mass Requests. Each “Funeral Mass Request Form” has space for 5 mass intentions. If you have more, please complete and submit additional forms as needed.

IMPORTANT:  Please do not hold funeral masses . . . submit ALL funeral mass requests together at the same time. Funeral masses do not count toward the allotted 2 mass intentions per parishioner. However, if they are held until way after the funeral, or request specific dates, they will count toward the two mass intentions allotted per parishioner.

A copy of the processed paperwork will be mailed to you upon completion so you have record of the dates assigned, which will also be your receipt for payment (upon request). If you provide your email address, a PDF copy of the processed form(s) will be emailed to you. Please note that dates noted as "TBA" mean "To Be Assigned" on the processed Request Form.

Mass Stipend Policy for Prince of Peace

[As of 08/30/2020)

Introduction: It is a constant practice that a special “intention” is added to each mass celebrated. These mass intentions are a way to specially pray for a deceased loved one, or a special occasion in a person’s life, such as a birthday or anniversary. Many of our parishioners have offered mass intentions for many years throughout the history of our parish. We are blessed as a parish to have more people who want intentions for masses than we have masses celebrated in our parish. We have a number of rules that our parish is subject to under Canon Law on how mass intentions are to be handled. Therefore, we have to set a fair and manageable method of determining which intentions will be celebrated. This policy will help clarify the rules for mass intentions, and our own parish policy.

1. According to Canon Law, all mass intentions must be celebrated within one year of receipt. As the liturgical year begins on the First Sunday of
Advent, a date will be announced each fall when the “Mass Book” is opened. We cannot schedule future dates until the “book opening” date each year.

2. The gift (stipend) for a mass intention is $10.00.

3. Every Sunday, one of the masses intentions must be “Pro Populo” or “For the People.” No other intentions can be scheduled for that mass.

4. Holy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil, and All Souls Day have specific intentions prescribed by the Church. We cannot schedule specific
     intentions for those days.

5. Every registered parishioner (adults and children) is welcome to schedule up to 2 mass intentions each at Prince of Peace on a first-come first-
     serve basis.
One of those masses can be a Sunday Mass (per family), while available. The other is to be a daily mass.

     a. For the purpose of this policy, a person is considered a registered parishioner if they have a census form on file at the parish, and their family has at
least 1 contribution on record of any amount in the previous 12 months.

     b. Masses are generally scheduled 1-2 months out (dates filled in between requested dates with funeral requests or requests not specifying a date).
Therefore, it is rare for dates to be available within 1-2 months.

6. Non-Parishioners are welcome to request mass intentions. We cannot reserve specific dates for those intentions, and we cannot guarantee
that those masses will be said at Prince of Peace.
We will do our best to schedule them as space allows. If we cannot schedule those masses at
Prince of Peace, we reserve the right to send those masses to other diocesan parishes, ministries, or to the missions.

7. Parishioners are welcome to request mass intentions beyond their initial 2 intentions. We will accept those requests, following the same rules as
non-parishioner requests in item #6 above.

8. Following a funeral mass, the next of kin may designate an additional mass intention to be said for the deceased. This mass intention will not
“count” toward that parishioner’s two scheduled mass intentions. Additional masses for the deceased will be scheduled as space is available,
following the same rules as non-parishioner intentions in item #6 above.

* Unfortunately, we cannot accept credit cards and cannot accept mass intention payments via online Giving. Checks or cash are acceptable.

It is our hope that this policy strikes a balance, making sure that all parishioners who wish to have a mass intention offered for their loved ones are able to schedule a time, while not turning away anyone who wishes to have masses offered.
